the lesson was intense. not gonna' lie. she went entirely too fast...ha. i tried to write down as much as humanly possible, but my poor little broken finger finally relented and refused to go any further. our class is very diverse. we have people from australia, romania, russia, scotland, london, new york, connecticut, washington, atlanta, and texas. it's quite the mix for sure. we actually ended up adopting the scotland lad, as he was living in a hostel and unsure about a home. we have room..we are cheap and wanted rent to be cheap, and who could resist a scottish lad? besides, he will keep our other roommate, tyler, good company. we have a nice mix in here.
yesterday was quite the day as well. sara and i woke up and went to the infamous castle on top of the hill. as we were walking into the cathedral, they were starting a catholic mass. wow is that a story! i have only been to two catholic mass' in my life...and they were in english and i didn't much know what was going on then; much less for it to be in a foreign language. it was humorous, to say the least. at one point, they began singing what i would assume to be czech hymns or whatever songs they sing. sara and i didn't want to be left out, so we started to sing.....we just went with watermelon and aligator. here's the thing, though...it's much easier to mesh those with english songs than songs that are in czech. it was interesting to say the least. the little priest guy was a cutie. old little man he was. they have incense that they use and he was so consumed by it at one point he started coughing...which almost started a riot of laughter from our amused pew. after the mass we went and toured the rest of the castle and waited until noon to watch the switching of the guards. that was neat-o. i will post pics tomorrow, as our little roommate ewen is waiting for us to leave his spot in the living room so he can rest. after walking around for a few hours, we went to an english church called faith community and had worship with them. it was quite good if i may say so myself. it was neat to think that all over the world people were worshiping the same Jesus i was. some of them in small churches in texas, some underneath african canopies, some in prison chapels, and some in afternoon english speaking churches in prague. none of that really mattered, though...just that it was all about solidarity. that was cool to me. i will say, however, that there is one significant difference between europe and american churches. afterwards in amarillo, we never went to the beer gartens (as though we'd have one). they do that here. ha. so we accompanied the other american folk to a close beer gartens where they enthralled themselves in good conversation and local beer. unfortunately, i do not like beer, so i had a few shots of absinth. wait...that's a lie. ha. i had raspberry something or another lemonade, which tasted much more like flavored gingerale - not my thing.
it was a full day, to say the least. and now, i am sitting in our prague living room listening to my roommate tyler play the guitar and sing on the balcony. what a talent he is. the breeze is gentle and life is good. class is intense, but i know it will be absolutely beneficial. we actually start our first one-on-one english lessons on wednesday. yeah...lot of preparation they gave us! i have josef and vladimira. did i mention that my roommate was singing and playing the guitar on the balcony? well. he is. and it's quite a way to end the overwhelming past few days we've had.
i will post pictures tomorrow either in the morning or later in the evening after class. ewen (my new scottish roommate) is asleep on the couch, and i feel as though he deserves his bed (which is in the living room...the only place i get wireless).
i miss you all and think of you often,
kami
