hello faithful readers! boy do i have pics and stories for you! welp, yesterday was pretty crazy. we headed off in the wee hours of the mornin' to kutna hora. i've never even heard of this place before, but when i heard what they were known for, it was an absolute must to go and check it out.
basically, before i post pics, i thought i'd inform you on what little i do actually know about it. they gave us a little sheet that gave a detailed story about what had happened, but i was too busy taking pictures to really take time to read it. so, here's what i know:
after the plague, kutna hora had around 40,000 bodies/skeleton remains chillin' in the crypt. the man who bought the land, told this guy to do something useful with the bones. well. the dude, whose name i can't remember, did just that. he made a church out of it. mmhmm. a flippin' church out of human remains. it was the most beautiful/freakiest thing i've ever seen. to know that the bones i was staring at belonged to living humans who faced similar tribulations and trials i do now... and there i was staring at heaps and hoards of them. check them.
here we are on our way.
and here is what i saw on the rainy walk to get there.
now. here is the bone collector. or, familiarily known as "kutna hora"

1. this was the opening arch entryway. yes. mmhmm. human bones people.
2. i actually set off the alarm by taking this picture... apparently you aren't supposed to reach and touch the bones... who knew?!?!
3. i wasn't sure whether to smile or be frightened...
4. sara and i with the coat of arms made out of bones. oh yes. what a great place to take an anatomy class.

1. oh. that's just me underneath the chandellier made out of human remains, no big deal.
2. the actual "sanctuary" of the church.
3. i named this skeleton martin. he and i became good chums.
i think one of the coolest parts about the church aside from the obvious bone factor, was the surrounding tombstones. there were hundreds of them just chillin' on the church grounds. i found a really neat one that had a crazy clear reflection... and i went to town. i think i am ADD, as this entertained me for what seemed like 20 minutes! here they are.
oh yes. flippin' cool.
moving forward, the weather throughout our time there wasn't anything towrite home about. it was pouring rain. and my choice of foot ware for the day failed me miserably. i love my cons, but they do not love rain. however, here are a few fun pics of the rest of our time .

1. sara and i were really excited we could get our semi-matching umbrellas out. we decided they were cousins. mine is much cooler, but i didn't want to hurt the feelings of the umbrella, so i pretended to be just as excited for it as for my own. :) haha.
2. this is my great friend dan. he is from london and has a killer accent. he uses words like "rubbish, famished, cheers" etc. etc. i'm trying to get him hooked on y'all... but he's a tough cookie to crack.
3. i think this is probably one of the coolest pictures i've seen in a while.
4. we were waiting on our train...
AND. NOW....
WATCH THIS VIDEO!!
i think it's pretty self-explanatory... but how flippin' cool is this puppy?
lets talk to govna' perry and get him to make these mandatory in texas!
needless to say, yesterday was quite fun. i think sara and i are about to go to the tv tower (where it has creepy lookin' babies crawling up it...expect more pichas) or go to this church where mozart played some huge organ - who knows. ha. we might go check a futball game out, which means soccer for those of you not in "the know"... but who knows what lies ahead.
it's always an adventure with me, ha.
cheers,
k-webb.
